A 9-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a bear attack while hunting with a relative in Alaska on Tuesday was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
According to Alaska State Troopers, the boy was out hunting with an adult in the Palmer Hay Flats area, which is 35 miles from Anchorage, when they came upon a brown bear.
The bear mauled the boy who suffered serious injuries. The man was also attacked, but he only suffered minor injuries.Both the man and the boy were taken to an area hospital in Alaska for treatment but then the boy was flown to Harborview Medical Center, a level one trauma center. A Harborview spokesperson told KIRO 7 that the boy had surgery on Wednesday and appears to be in stable condition.
Alaska troopers and staff with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game returned to the area of the attack and continued investigating., a necropsy was completed on the bear and Todd Rinaldi, a regional management coordinator for Fish and Game in Alaska said officials do not believe it was the brown bear that has been raiding chicken coops in the area as the staff has been searching for it.
