ISLAMABAD: Meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain and it was decided to import massive quantity of Sugar to control the shortage and price of sugar.
According to the statement, the Sugar Advisory Board approved the import of 500,000 tons of sugar. The meeting highlighted that the arbitrary price hikes by sugar mill owners are a major reason for the increase in prices. It was also decided to implement strict monitoring to control the supply and prices of sugar. On this occasion, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said that formal procedures related to the imported sugar will be completed within a few days. Rana Tanveer Hussain stated that the decision to import sugar became inevitable to stabilize prices, as the country is facing a shortage of sugar supply nationwide.
