LAHORE: The Punjab Government has announced the imposition of Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram to maintain law and order in the province. According to the official statement, pillion riding will be banned on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
However, senior citizens and women will be exempt from this restriction. The order also prohibits the display of weapons, possession of incendiary materials in public places, and any slogans, statements, or commentary that incite hatred or provoke unrest. These measures will be enforced strictly under Section 144. On the other hand, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene its meeting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner Quetta to sight the Muharram moon. The session will be chaired by Committee Chairman, Abdul Khabeer Azad. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meetings will be held simultaneously at respective provincial headquarters. The final announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram moon will be made by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.According to astronomical forecasts, the Muharram moon is expected to be sighted on June 27, 2025, which would likely place 10th Muharram around July 7, 2025.
