Pakistan, GCC nations pledge stronger joint action against narcotics
ISLAMABAD Pakistan and Gulf Cooperation Council member states have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying cooperation in the fight against narcotics, following the successful conclusion of the first-ever Pak-GCC Anti-Narcotics Conference in Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi met with the heads of delegations from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait on Friday. The delegations pledged full support to Pakistan’s ongoing anti-drug efforts. Naqvi praised the Gulf countries’ participation, calling the conference a “historic initiative” and a vital step towards building a united regional front against drug trafficking. He announced that a meeting of anti-narcotics ministers from Pakistan and GCC countries would be held later this year to take key policy decisions. The conference focused on enhancing intelligence sharing, joint training, real-time communication, and technical collaboration. Naqvi stressed that collective action is essential to protect future generations from the scourge of drugs. Officials described the conference and subsequent bilateral talks as constructive steps towards regional coordination to combat the evolving threats posed by narcotics networks.
