PM Shehbaz briefs Nawaz Sharif on post-Pahalgam situation, national security measures
LAHORE Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif to discuss the recent developments following the Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir. The meeting, held at their family residence in Jati Umrah, was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
During the briefing, Shehbaz Sharif informed Nawaz Sharif about the decisions made during the National Security Committee meeting, which followed India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the militant attack. Shehbaz emphasised that Pakistan would respond with full force if India resorted to any form of aggression. He described the Pahalgam incident as a "pre-planned drama," accusing India of staging false flag operations to destabilise the region. Shehbaz assured Nawaz that Pakistan remains committed to peace but stressed that the country’s security is non-negotiable. He further clarified that such actions would not be tolerated, and Pakistan was prepared to defend itself if necessary. Nawaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s stance for peace in South Asia, strongly condemning terrorism in all forms. He emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels to avoid escalation, urging international cooperation to ensure regional stability. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has offered to establish an international commission to investigate the Pahalgam attack, calling for transparency and cooperation between Pakistan and global powers to prevent further conflict.
