Spider-Man is in need of some new allies in the MCU, and there’s no better character for him to team up with than the one-and-only Merc with a Mouth.
Marvel would be foolish for not teaming up Tom Holland’s Spider-Man with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the MCU, and here’s why. One of the most anticipated properties coming down the pipeline in Phases 5 and 6 is Deadpool 3. Aptly, it will be uniting the Merc with a Mouth with Wolverine, notably bringing Hugh Jackman back after his presumptive coup de grâce in Logan.
Spider-Man needs to interact and engage with all sorts of different heroes beyond what is naturally part of an Avengers movie. Spider-Man 4 is the perfect place to showcase him expanding and growing beyond the legacy of his first trilogy. Deadpool would be a bold catalyst for such an evolution for he is the further thing from any of Spider-Man’s past relationships. He is no mentor.
While Deadpool and Deadpool 2 clearly established the Merc with a Mouth as an intrinsically heroic figure, working tirelessly to protect the people he cares about, how he ensures their safety would be a big shock to Spider-Man. This is exactly why they need to team up. It would be a significant push forward in Spider-Man’s arc and growth as a hero to confront how others operate, especially if they share the same motivations and goals.
While they have their fair share of problems to contend with, Deadpool and Spider-Man steadily do become closer and both develop a genuine, yet relative, respect for the other. Deadpool looks up to Spider-Man as the standard for what he could be as a true hero, while Spider-Man began to see the good in Deadpool deep down. Their relationship in a way is a fun reversal of Spider-Man’s MCU history as he acts as a mentor to Deadpool, guiding him on a journey to become what Spider-Man sees in him.
3 Spider-Man & Deadpool Are Prime For Some Super Fun Comedy One of the best draws for a Deadpool and Spider-Man team-up is just the sheer comedic potential. In the comics, Spider-Man is incredibly quippy especially when facing off against his villains. In the MCU, however, he’s lost in some regard, favorably showing him as more endearing and vulnerable.
