Trunks or no trunks for Superman?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Superman is perhaps the most iconic superhero of all time, and the DC Universe's upcoming Superman: Legacy has the difficult task of designing a new suit for Clark Kent that both honors tradition and stands out as its own look. First appearing in 1938's Action Comics #1, Superman has undergone dozens of major and minor suit changes as his character and stories have grown over time.
While we don't know much about Superman: Legacy yet, it would be incredibly surprising if James Gunn decides to use any color scheme besides the classic blue and red. It's iconic for a reason, and as the start of a brand new cinematic universe, a classic Superman is likely what the franchise needs to start off on the right foot. Stories down the line may see Superman's suit change, but those designs are better left for later.
However, whichever way Gunn and company eventually go isn't as important as the suit needing some kind of red around the waistline in general. Without it, even with a belt, the suit can look too overwhelmingly blue, and red decals and designs around the waist help visually balance the suit. Ultimately, the decision about whether that red comes in the form of trunks or not will likely depend on the tone and feel Gunn is going for with Superman: Legacy.
4 Superman's Suit Needs The Yellow And Red S Almost all versions of Superman have the iconic yellow and red S, and it's important both in how iconic it is and how the subtle yellow accents elevate the suit composition overall. It seems likely that Gunn's suit for Superman actor David Corenswet will keep the traditionally-colored logo, but it's not a guarantee.
