A 78-year-old resident of an apartment in Brooklyn has died after being shot by police who were responding to a burglary call.
An investigation is underway after a police involved shooting on Lewis Ave in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon. Lucy Yang has the story.Police were responding to reports of a possible burglary in Brooklyn when they say a man pointed a gun at them. Two officers opened fire and killed him.
Police said the person they shot was not a robbery suspect, but was the person who lived in the home."I can tell I observed the body camera, he clearly charged at the officers with his gun, we do not know why though, when they initially got to the apartment, they did not have their guns drawn," Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said.The officers, assigned to the 81st Precinct, were checked out but were not injured.Few other details were released.
