Most Pakistanis hold less than Rs50,000 in their Bank accountsLahore: Government of Punjab introduces Green Credits Initiative with new locally developed recycling machines designed to incentivize plastic waste recycling across the city.
Developed with advanced Chinese technology, these user-friendly machines will be installed next month at four leading universities and several bustling commercial markets throughout Lahore. The machines enable citizens to conveniently exchange their used plastic bottles for immediate green credits and monetary rewards. The simple process involves pressing Button A, depositing the plastic bottle, entering a phone number, and pressing Button B. The machine then displays the earned green credits, which users can also monitor through a dedicated mobile application. Gulfam Abid, chairman of the manufacturing company, highlighted that Lahore generates approximately 500 tons of plastic bottle waste daily. The recycled plastic will be repurposed into building materials such as bricks and pavement blocks, supporting city infrastructure and road maintenance.Eligible citizens can earn up to Rs. 1,000 by depositing twenty 1.5-liter bottles or forty half-liter bottles. The program also extends to Lahore’s 18,000 scrap collectors, who can register via the app to have their collected bottles picked up directly and exchanged for cash, promoting a sustainable and inclusive waste management system.
