Two men fatally shot during a Father’s Day gathering in Roseland Sunday were among the 13 people killed by gunfire over the three-day Juneteenth holiday weekend in Chicago.
According to Chicago Police Department data, 75 people were shot in 51 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday, marking one of the most violent weekends of the year to date. There were three separate mass shootings that left at least four people dead.
A 58-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the 1600 block of West 80th Street just after midnight Saturday morning. Police said it appears he was shot in the chest while in an alley, and then made his way to the front of a nearby residence where he collapsed. Two men were killed and three others were wounded in a drive-by shooting just before 8 p.m. Sunday in the 9900 block of South Princeton Avenue. The victims were standing in a park when occupants inside a gray Honda sedan began firing. A 37-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene, and a 33-year-old man later died at a local hospital. Two other victims — men ages 19 and 25 — were hospitalized in fair condition, while a 27-year-old man was listed in critical condition.
