The survey found that foreigners who attended the Gwanghwamun comeback concert stayed in Korea an average of 8.7 days and spent 3.53 million won. This is 2.6 days longer than the average stay of ordinary foreign tourists in the first quarter of this year and 1.08 million won more than their spending .
Foreigners who visited the BTS Goyang concerts made linked visits to Yongsan, Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun Design Plaza , and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, where the ‘BTS THE CITY Seoul program’ took place before and after the concerts, staying an average of 7.4 days and spending 2.91 million won. Compared with the same period a year earlier, during the three concert days, foreign visitors increased by 35 times and spending by 38 times, indicating a pronounced economic impact.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Visit Year Committee plan to run a welcome week from June 1 to 15 in connection with the BTS Busan concert , to stage four regional K-pop concerts, and to support two linked K-culture experiential exhibitions. They will also continue to develop flagship Hallyu tourism itineraries connected with filming locations for K-dramas and music videos.
Kang Jeong-won, Director-General for Tourism Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “We plan to analyze inbound tourism trends and effects based on data and apply them to tourism policy,” adding, “We will support visits to regions by inbound travelers whose purpose is the experience of music, film, drama, games, and ‘K-culture’ itself so that these lead to longer-stay tourism. ” 한글기사 원본
