ISTANBUL: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Daar met with Turkish President Tayyab Erdogan on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation council of Foreign Minister.
Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was also present at the meeting, along with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.the discussions, Ishaq Dar conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s warm regards and emphasized Pakistan’s strong commitment to its fraternal relations with Turkey. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to deepening Pakistan-Turkey ties and agreed to enhance cooperation in political, economic, and defense fields , The leaders voiced strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire.They also reiterated their support for Iran’s sovereignty and its right to self-defense, in accordance with the United Nations Charter.The meeting between Ishaq Dar and Erdogan highlighted the critical role of diplomatic efforts in reducing regional tensions and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid reaches Gaza. Furthermore, during the discussions, Ishaq Dar congratulated President Erdogan on receiving the prestigious OIC Youth Forum Grand Youth Award and commended Turkey’s successful hosting of the OIC summit.The importance of Pakistan-Turkey relations was underscored during the broader OIC session, where Ishaq Dar stressed the need for unity among Muslim nations to confront rising Islamophobia, regional instability, and humanitarian challenges. In another development, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone call with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov. The two leaders discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on the agenda for the upcoming OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, scheduled to be held in Istanbul from July 21 to 22.
