It’s going to require you to set big goals for yourself,” Soukup explains. “When it comes to thinking big, that is so difficult for so many people because our inclination, especially I think for women, is to immediately edit.
“Give yourself permission to acknowledge that you’re not happy and you want something else,” says Soukup. “That in itself is an act of courage.”Too often, we immediately jump to, “Well, I have no idea how to do that,” or “That’s just not realistic,” and we don’t even allow ourselves to think big.
Without making it a daily priority, goal-setting in our careers can get away from us. Suddenly, you wake up and you’re not where you wanted to be. And that, says Soukup, is the positive thing about fear. As much as it can hold us back, it can also be a motivator to drive us forward. “So much research shows that we as humans are actually happier when we’re striving for something,” she explains. “It’s not in the accomplishing, it’s in the striving.
