As of 3:45 PM, two of eight dolphins that washed ashore in Sea Isle City today have died, according to officials. Dolphins have washed up dead in several locations along the Jersey Shore this year, but Tuesday’s stranding was the largest.
Six dolphins were rescued by first responders who poured water on them for hours and two died in a mass stranding on a Sea Isle City beach Tuesday.
Police officers were joined by local rescue squad members, who covered the dolphins in blankets, to form a bucket brigade pouring ocean water on the dolphins as Marine Mammal Rescue Center officials raced to the scene, he said.
