Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated on Saturday that severe storms across Punjab have resulted in the deaths of nine people while 45 others got injured as rains and windstorm lashes Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Storm and rain hit twin cities, Jehlum, Gujrat, Daska, Wazirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura and LahoreProvincial Disaster Management Authority stated on Saturday that severe storms across Punjab have resulted in the deaths of nine people while 45 others got injured as rains and windstorm lashes Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Emergency was declared in Rawalpindi as heavy rain and hailstorms hits upper parts of the country and many cities in Punjab, bringing much-needed respite to the people from scorching heat. According to an initial report issued by PDMA, fatalities took place due to the collapse of dilapidated buildings, trees and solar panel plates. Three deaths were reported in Jhelum, while one fatality each occurred in Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Mianwali, and Nankana Sahib district.Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, has instructed authorities to provide the best medical treatment to the injured. All commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue services across the province have been directed to remain on high alert. In Gul Afshan Colony, a young man died after a tree fell on him during the storm. In West Colony, a woman died when the roof of a house collapsed, according to rescue sources. In Dhoke Wahab Din, a hotel waiter was killed after a wall collapsed. Near the cattle market in Dina, three people sustained serious injuries when a wall fell. In Pind Dadan Khan, the roof of a house collapsed, injuring four people. Solar panels and hoarding boards installed on rooftops of several houses were also blown down. Damage to citizens' vehicles and motorbikes was reported. Separately, in Pasrur, a house wall collapsed as a result of heavy rain. A 60-year-old man, Tariq, was injured after being trapped under the debris, according to Rescue officials. Rescue teams recovered the injured man from the rubble and transported him to hospital. A factory roof collapsed on Lahore road in Sheikhupura, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to five others, according to Rescue officials. The five injured individuals were taken to hospital for treatment. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Shehzad, Rescue sources confirmed. Rainfall began in different parts of Lahore, including Gulberg, Model Town, Mall Road, and Cantonment, along with thunder and lightning. According to the Meteorological Department, the spell of heavy rain is expected to continue intermittently. A wall collapsed near Bhubtian Chowk Lahore as a result of strong winds, the Edhi Foundation reported. Two people were injured and taken to hospital for medical treatment, according to an Edhi spokesperson. The injured have been identified as 25-year-old Usman and 20-year-old Hasnain. A severe dust and windstorm swept through Phoolnagar and surrounding areas, affecting daily life and causing power outages citywide. Electricity supply was suspended across Phoolnagar due to the storm. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the administration and rescue teams to remain on high alert due to the forecast of storms and heavy rainfall. The chief minister took notice of low-lying areas being submerged following torrential rain in Rawalpindi and other cities. She instructed administrative officers to take immediate measures to prevent further flooding. Maryam Nawaz directed WASA officials in Rawalpindi to visit the field personally to oversee drainage efforts. “All available resources must be used to ensure proper drainage,” said the Chief Minister. The roof of a canteen at Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad collapsed after heavy rain and a hailstorm lashed the federal capital and its suburbs. A rain emergency was declared in neighbouring Rawalpindi with directive to WASA staff to remain in the field along with heavy machinery. The deputy commissioner in Islamabad also directed officers to monitor the low-lying areas besides keeping an eye on the situation in nullahs and under-construction structures. So large were the hailstones that there were fears of damage to windows and solar panels installed on rooftops. Thick black clouds darkened the homes during the day and hovered over the city creating the impression as if it was nighttime, prompting drivers to turn the lights of their vehicles on. After twin cities, rain and windstorm was also reported in twin cities, Jehlum, Gujrat, Daska, Wazirabad and Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Shiekhupura and Lahore on Saturday. Due to windstorm, electricity feeders tripped in various areas. Owing to storm, various billboards were reported to collapsed and trees were uprooted causing damages to the vehicles. The rain along with heavy winds were also reported in Mandi Bhahauddin and nearby areas bringing respite in heatwave. In Attock, not far from Islamabad, strong winds, accompanied by rain and hailstones, wreaked havoc, blowing away billboards. Winds uprooted a tree at the city police station, which fell on the cars parked nearby, causing the loss of millions of rupees to their owners. There were reports of the uprooting of trees and the collapse of walls from other areas of the city as well. However, no loss of life was reported. Heavy rain and a hailstorm were also reported from Swat, Mingora and the outskirts, which resulted in a deluge in streams and nullahs. Similarly, thundershowers and hailstorms were also reported from Haripur, Mansehra, Balakot, Abbottabad, Galyat, Thandiani, Muzaffarabad, Hatyan Bala and other areas. Likewise, rain and hailstorms were also reported from Tirah Valley in Khyber, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining areas.
