Steve Fox-Smith, Carmichael Outreach’s housing co-ordinator, said frontline agencies have been calling for funding improvements to government programs, such as social supports, mental health and addictions, or housing services, “for decades.” “I do know that the folks around here are struggling day-to-day and the $500 cheque isn’t really going to help out. What they need is more social supports that make their day-to-day life a little bit easier,” Fox-Smith said.
