Henrik Lundqvist joined an exclusive club and the Leafs were on the wrong side of history. 5 things we learned in the NHL:

Lundqvist joined longtime Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur and Blackhawks great Tony Esposito in the highly-exclusive 50,000 minutes club.

Both Brodeur and Esposito are unsurprisingly enshrined in the Hockey of Hall of Fame. And you can be sure Lundqvist will be, too, as soon as he decides to walk off into the sunset.is often the person garnering the most headlines out of Washington, at least where hockey is concerned. After all, he’s widely regarded around hockey circles as the best goal scorer of his generation and is showing no signs of regression, making all the attention he gets warranted.

But of course hockey is a team game, which means plenty of Ovechkin’s teammates have played pivotal roles in helping the Russian reach the heights that he has. Of all the players Ovechkin has skated with over the years, Nicklas Backstrom certainly qualifies as one who has arguably helped him most, particularly from a playmaking standpoint.

While he didn’t assist on a goal by The Great Eight this particular evening, he did earn an assist alongside Ovechkin when the two set up Tom Wilson’s 21st of the season. In doing so Backstrom tallied at least 50 assists for a sixth straight season, making him the 26th player in NHL history to do so.
