Police services both in Mobile and the newly annexed parts of the city will largely stay the same, with a few notable changes.

, Mobile grew by over 19,000 people to become Alabama’s second-largest city. Now, those residents are entitled to city services, and with the start of the new fiscal year next week, those services are either set to begin or to continue.

Because those annexed areas were within Mobile’s police jurisdiction prior to the referendum, there was no need to scale up city police services in order to accommodate the 19,000 new residents, as there was with the city’s . But there are still some slight changes to policing coming for Mobile. Here are a few answers to your questions.The biggest change is that, now that those areas are within the city limits of Mobile, the police can enforce city ordinances in those annexed areas, Jason Johnson, a spokesperson for the city of Mobile says. Those city ordinances mostly relate to quality-of-life issues, such as noise and nuisance ordinances.
