Only 38% of Dallas City of Learning programs were offered in-person in 2021.
Tuesday morning the nonprofit brought together educators and community leaders for a virtual discussion focused on how summer programs impacted children.
Summer programming was cut short by changed academic schedules, said Dylan Farmer, the assistant director of strategic partnerships at SMU’s Center of Research and Evaluation. However, in-person opportunities were still significantly more limited than pre-pandemic offerings. About 97% of activities were in person in 2019, whereas just 38% of 2021′s programming was.
Survey data showed that caregivers, program leaders and front-line staff all reported greater satisfaction with their programs than they did in 2020. Students reported a slight decrease in their own satisfaction, although officials didn’t offer a reason for the decline.
