Williams joins Brandon Aiyuk on the list of 49ers players wanting either a contract extension or an adjustment.
On a team filled with superstars, perhaps no player is more important to the San Francisco 49ers than Trent Williams. With the 49ers beginning training camp on Wednesday, the 36-year-old four-time All-Pro left tackle did not report to camp. Head coach Kyle Shanahan says it’s related to a contract holdout, which they’re working through. Williams signed a six-year, $138 million contract back in 2021, which made him the NFL’s highest paid offensive lineman.
That average per year has since been surpassed by the Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell, Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil, and the New York Giants’ Andrew Thomas. Most likely, this will be resolved and Williams will eventually report to camp and get to practicing. It’s still nevertheless a significant story given wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is also in the middle of a holdout, only he’s also made a trade request after not getting his desired contract extension.
