Both Ryan and play-by-play broadcaster Greg Papa are under contract through 2028.
Ryan was a standout offensive and defensive lineman at Oak Grove-San Jose before playing defensive tackle collegiately at USC. A third round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, he played for four years with the Chicago Bears before retiring and moving into broadcasting.
Assuming Ryan completes the remaining years on his contract, his 15 years will make him the longest-tenured 49ers broadcaster since play-by-play announcer Joe Starkey, who called 49ers games for 20 years . Papa was the Oakland Raiders play-by-play broadcaster for 21 years until he was let go before the start of the 2018 season. After a one-year hiatus, the 49ers hired Papa to the same role, replacing Ted Robinson and pairing him with Ryan.
Papa and Ryan are in their fifth season together on the air, and are now each under contract for five more years together.
