Fred Warner is the NFC’s defensive player of the week after his festival of big plays in the 49ers’ Sunday night rout of the Dallas Cowboys.
San Francisco 49ers’ Fred Warner celebrates his interception against the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth quarter at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023. SANTA CLARA — Fred Warner came away from Sunday night’s clobbering of the Cowboys with a forced fumble, a sack, an interception, a 42-10 victory, and, three days later, the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week award.
The NFL took notice and awarded Warner with his third career player-of-the-week award, and his first since 2000. It’s the first such honor this season for any member of the 49ers’ top-ranked scoring defense. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and running back Christian McCaffrey won previous NFC offensive honors.
“I myself played a little football in that stadium. When I was on ‘The Bachelor’ , we had a powder-puff football game,” Sydney Warner said. “I was the quarterback of the team. It was a competition of whoever won the game got to go to the cocktail party. “I wanted that, for, one, obviously the win. More than anything it was going to be our toughest matchup yet this season,” Fred Warner added. “I wanted to show my dominance and our defense’s dominance over their defense.
