Eight-time Gymnastics Olympian Oksana Chusovitina earns standing ovation at her final international competition Tokyo2020 TokyoTakeTwo
Chusovitina repped the Soviet Union at her first worlds and won gold with the Unified Team at her initial Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 at age 17. The 11-time world medalist finished up competing for her native Uzbekistan.
In between, she also competed for Germany as a special tribute to the country where her son Alisher received medical treatment for childhood leukemia. Oksana Chusovitina hugs her coach after competing on vault during Women’s Qualification on day two of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Ariake Gymnastics Centre on July 25, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Chusovitina has competed in eight Olympic Games.
She is one of the most enduring Olympians in a body-battering sport that traditionally produced teenaged champions. Is eight enough or, after a rest, will she back for a shot at Paris 2024?Share this article in your social network
