on learning how to walk the runway, but for nearly 20 years SCAD has hosted fashion shows with its hard-working and talented student designers. And this year, the college had its first-ever runway show for its Atlanta campus.
Giving student designers an exciting platform to showcase their work this year’s runway shows were more diverse than ever, according to the school’s dean, Michael Fink. “The thought-provoking collections invited dialogue with the viewer regarding climate change, survival, continuing global race and social issues, sustainability and upcycling, and non-binary dressing as well as reimagining punk rock, glam rock, and a ‘let's just have a party’ joyful spirit,” he told.
Here we speak with four of SCAD’s students about their senior collections, their thoughts about the current state of fashion, and what they’re most looking forward to as they enter the real world.My collection is bold, self-expressive, vibrate, resilient and "Avant Oppidan".This collection is called “The Perception of Us" and the misrepresentation of black people in the fashion industry.
Do you have any thoughts or feelings about the current state of fashion? What would you say is missing and what do you hope to achieve as a designer?This is the time for designers. I would love to see more designers take a stand in creating collections that have meaning. There are a lot of things happening in our world now and we should take this opportunity to use our voice through fashion.
