In an interview with local media, one of the rescuers explained how they had just a “minute or two” to get the driver out before the white sedan fully immolated. The report elaborated on the driver’s medical episode, suggesting it was a seizure which caused the crash. Chris Ogg, captain of the Mississauga fire department, explained to media how a vehicle fire can quickly reach a thousand degrees or more thanks to a car’s unique mix of combustibles.
He called the rescue a “tremendous act of heroism”, something with which we agree.It’s often unimaginably tough to think clearly in these difficult circumstances, whether as a rescuer or a person needing assistance. That these folks all had the presence of mind to quickly leap into appropriate action is nothing short of remarkable. Most of us like to think we’d do the same in a similar circumstance, but one never knows until they’re actually faced with such danger.
