Paxton and his defense team have tried to paint the impeachment as a political prosecution by Democrats and Republicans who are not conservative enough. Gohmert blasted the attorney general and wrote that while his supporters elected him because they thought he would save the GOP in Texas. Instead, Gohmert wrote, he “will be the Texas Attorney General who divides and destroys his party and his state.”The proceedings were delayed for about 30 minutes Friday morning after Sen. Borris Miles, D-Houston, had to attend to a “personal matter,” representatives from his office said.
