Efforts to retrieve three orphaned bear cubs continues, after their mother was struck and killed by a car in Sooke last week.

In the days since then, crews have been unable to pick up the bear cubs because they are in an area “unsafe for retrieval.”“If intervention took place it could potentially harm people involved in the rescue efforts as well as the bear cubs,” Wild Wise president Mollie Cameron told CHEK News on Monday.

In the meantime, Wild Wise is asking the public to stay away from the bears and not disturb them during this stressful time, and adds that it will not be releasing any photos or video to avoid drawing public interest to the cubs.Wild Wise suspects the cubs and their mother were in the Sooke area because they were feeding on attractants, such as garbage.
