Three Jacksonville officers shot in line of duty this year, highest rate in a decade

News4JAX data shows no more than two JSO officers have been shot in any year since 2007- until 2023, with three shot in less than five months. In another case from February, a fourth officer was knocked unconscious responding to a shoplifting suspect at the Walmart on Philips Highway.“Number one, subjects are shooting at the police because they want to evade or escape arrest,” Burton said. “They don’t want to go to jail. But secondly, it’s because people hate the police.”
