Arizona regulators are turning to summary suspensions to prevent therapists from working while investigating sexual abuse and misconduct allegations.
by The Arizona Republic that found the licensing board gave therapists second chances when accused of fondling or sexually abusing their clients. This puts customers in danger, and there is very little they can do to protect themselves.
On Monday, the board also revoked the license of Marana massage therapist James Sailer after a client alleged he covered her breasts with only a washcloth, pressed on her pubic area and massaged up under her breasts. The client, identified only as"H.G.," told board members Sailer's actions were definitely"inappropriate." Board documents say Sailer was working at Gallery Sports Club in Marana at the time of the allegation but then quit.
A Maricopa County grand jury last year indicted the 34-year Riggs on two counts of sexual abuse after a client alleged he touched her breast and vagina during an August 2021 massage, according to court records. Riggs had been working at Coyote Bodyworks in Scottsdale for about three weeks at the time of the allegation, records say.
