A 3.5 magnitude earthquake was measured in the waters between Nanaimo and Vancouver on Friday morning, according to Earthquakes Canada.
The earthquake occurred just after 2 a.m. and was initially registered at 3.8 magnitude but was updated to be 3.5.As of 9:45 a.m., 494 people had reported to Earthquakes Canada that they had felt the earthquake. The majority reported they felt a weak earthquake. Three people had reported moderate with zero reports of strong or higher.
In this region, the strongest felt earthquake was in 1872 when a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck. The next strongest was in 1918 with a 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
