A 29-year-old man from Cambridge is dead following a fail-to-remain crash on Highway 401.

Provincial police said on Twitter that the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in the westbound right-hand lane of the highway approaching Mavis Road.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Audi S5 travelling at “extreme high rates of speed,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in a video on Twitter, adding that it slammed into the car driven by the victim. The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Reports indicate that the driver of the white Audi S5 left the vehicle and escaped on foot towards Mavis Road, Schmidt said.Witnesses are being urged to call 905-858-8670.
