In need of a romantic comedy to watch this weekend? 'Failure to Launch' is now on Netflix, and one Vogue writer shares all of the thoughts she had while rewatching
We learn Matt deliberately uses the fact that he lives with his parents to ward off girls looking for something more than a one-night stand, which I think I’m supposed to be offended by, but it’s better than ghosting, I guess? Rom-Com Bradley Cooper and Hot Lawyer also sponge off their parents, presumably as a profession.
Matt and SJP have a date on his boat, which he presumably can afford with all the rent money he’s not paying. Oh, wait, JK, he’s a boat broker! Which is...apparently a job? The boat’s real owner turns up and is mad, but SJP charms him—and Matt—with some quick thinking. The Enlightened Bros take SJP to play paintball to cheer her up. Zooey comes along, and has a crush on Bradley Cooper. For their next date, Matt brings SJP out to crack crab, and I don’t hear anything that happens for about five minutes because I’m busy thinking about how much I want to be in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, cracking crab with my friends right now. Anyway, SJP encourages Matt to buy a boat, and they kiss immediately after eating crab. Ew.
More Zooey bird stuff. Why? She chastises SJP for breaking her no-sex-with-clients rule, and SJP meets up with a new client—played by Patton Oswalt—who’s really intoUnfortunately, Hot Lawyer catches SJP in the act and thinks she’s cheating on Matt. He blackmails her into setting him up with Zooey. Matt gets royally pissed at Rom-Com Bradley Cooper for telling SJP about Jeffrey’s background. Rom-Com Bradley Cooper breaks and spills the beans about who SJP really is.
