Eight Republican candidates participated in the first GOP debate for the 2024 campaign season on Wednesday. Former President Trump opted out of the debate. Steve Schmidt, Political strategist, and founder of The Warning newsletter, YouTube channel and podcast, joins Yahoo Finance Live to break down the debate, including the winners and losers of the first debate. Schmidt said that it was a 'surreal' evening, and claimed, 'It's not a debate. It's a reality show, a Fox News produced spectacle.'
An Unmatched Tradition: Four Sisters Took Annual Photo For 40 YearsBoston Federal Reserve Bank President Susan Collins says the Fed may have to continue to raise rates in order to combat inflation. In an interview with Yahoo Finance's Jennifer Schonberger, Collins says she is seeing "some promising signs" that inflation is coming down, but there "is more to do" to get it down even further, stressing that it is important for the Fed to be "patient and resolute.
" Collins acknowledges that people would like clearer signals on the Fed's next actions, but says "we may be near" a peak on rates, but "we may need to increase a little bit further." When it comes to what's driving inflation, Collins says she is watching non-shelter services, "which is a place where I have not seen as much progress as I'd hope to see.
