A new report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reveals 2024 as the deadliest year on record for journalists, with Israel responsible for 70% of the 127 deaths. The report highlights the unprecedented number of journalists killed in the Israel-Gaza war, exceeding 190 in 2023 and 2024 combined. CPJ condemns the targeting of journalists, their families, and media outlets, calling it a deliberate strategy to silence truth-telling.

A new press freedom report concludes that 2024 was the deadliest year for journalists around the world, driven largely by Israel ’s ongoing attacks against Palestinian members of the media.were killed internationally last year, 70% of which Israel is responsible for, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists’ 2024 Killed Report first obtained by HuffPost.

“The IDF takes all operationally feasible measures to mitigate harm to civilians including journalists,” the spokesperson said. “Given the exchanges of fire, remaining in an active combat zone has inherent risks. The IDF will continue to counter threats while persisting to mitigate harm to civilians.

“So we documented the cases of journalists being killed while they were directly reporting, but also when they were getting some rest near a hospital that was bombed. Getting some flour, and that was bombed. When they were displaced, when they were enduring all the circumstances of the civilian population,” he continued. “So them, as civilians, should be protected. And they haven’t been protected.”.
