Porsche's newest 911 trim proves you don’t need huge power for world-class performance. The want is real.
, though it's tricky to achieve. Why? Because Porsche limits engine speed to 3,500 rpm with the clutch disengaged, meaning the engine doesn't make enough grunt to break loose its wide 305-section rear tires. Achieving the best acceleration results requires enough clutch slippage to make owners worry about replacement cost.
We had a riot piloting the new Carrera T around the linked opposing skidpads, too. The green machine delivered brilliant corner entry whether the driver was smooth or aggressive, and the rear end dug out of corners in a way that elicited the comment,"Magical."The street is where you'll encounter our few misgivings with the 2023 Porsche 911 T, but those issues barely hinder its brilliance.
Porsche's cabin design is elegant and cohesive. The signature central tachometer is jewel-like in its appearance, comparable only to luxury timepieces. The next-gen 911 will likely lose it, so treasure the analog gauge while you still can. Porsche's infotainment suite is well integrated into the dash. The Carrera T's interior package added handsome pinstriped fabric seat inserts and gray contrast stitching throughout the interior to further differentiate it from normie 911s.
We haven't even talked about handling. The tail-heavy 911 appreciates trail braking to transfer weight forward, pressing the front rubber to the pavement for the sharpest turn-in. Quick steering and proper technique deliver a sharp, confident front end, but forget your Porsche ABCs, and you'll find understeer. When you're really pushing, you feel the rear steer and rear differential help the relatively narrow front tires to rotate the car on throttle.
