CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The 2023 Canada Games Host Society announced a $5.5-million legacy fund on May 13 during a news conference at the P.E.I. Convention Centre in Charlottetown.

“Ideally, we’d like to target some of those communities that didn’t get money during the Canada Games. Thanks to the efforts and support of host society staff, many volunteers, sponsors, funding partners and strong financial management, the host society will have a financial surplus.” The funding categories and eligible expenses include capacity building, equipment, introduction to sport and facility development.

This fund has been designed to complement the outcomes of the 2009 Canada Games Dream and Champions Program, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic approach to fostering sporting excellence across the province. P.E.I. hosted the Canada Summer Games in 2009. “We will take applications in and give them, in this case, to the review committee which will make the determination and decisions on who will get those funds, but we’ll handle the entire administrative element of it,” Hudson told SaltWire.
