Cooking Culinary Adventure: inspired by Halifax's Seaport Market | SaltWire #cooking #cookingshortsST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Hunter Madden is one of the go-to guys in St. John's music industry. You may not recognize his name, but if you're from Newfoundland and Labrador, you've likely heard him feature in a number of bands.

By day, he has a contract position with Choices For Youth. By night, he could be playing anywhere. His success in the industry grows each year.Music is in the Madden family's blood. His father is a drummer. His two sisters can play different instruments, like the Tuba and drums– Madden was listening to rock before he could walk.

"For the first little while of my life, maybe not quite a full year, I was completely deaf. Stone cold, 100% deaf in both ears," said Madden. His parents had started looking into cochlear impact surgeries and the school of the deaf."One day, my older sister Casey… she just screamed and had a hissy fit about something, being a normal kid, and because of that, I woke up," Madden said."She brought me to the doctor and it turned out I had 100% hearing back.

"We're not gigging as much as we used to but we put out one album together and that's been fun to have an opportunity to play guitar where I'm mostly playing drums and bass as of lately," he explained. This past year has brought a lot of cool opportunities. I got a job that I like. It’s a contract job so it's not permanent but I’m currently working at a place I really enjoy. I got to play with a lot more people and a lot more gigs this past year. I met some really cool people along the way because of that. It’s also my first year, being nominated by myself for something.
