2 rounds of showers, thunderstorms to move through Chicago area
CHICAGO — Scattered showers and storms will arrive in Chicago on Sunday, especially before noon. Storms impact Memorial Day travel and eventsThe threat of potentially severe storms has led to a ground stop at Chicago 's O'Hare Airport. Day 2 of the Sueños Festival in Grant Park was delayed until further notice due to weather. Attendees were advised to wait before heading to the festival until a confirmed opening time is announced.
Additional storm chances are in the forecast for the afternoon and evening, but the second round is highly conditional on how fast the atmosphere recovers after the first morning round of rain. Storms that do develop late Sunday could be strong to severe — producing large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.A few showers are possible on Monday and Tuesday before drier weather returns by midweek.
