At least 1 dead after house fire in southeast Houston
A husband and wife were found dead after a house fire broke out Thursday morning in southeast Houston, officials said.
Investigators were still working to determine what caused the fire, but had identified heating appliances that were items of interest, Robert Garcia, deputy chief with the Houston Fire Department, told On Scene reporters. Firefighters around 2:30 a.m. were called to reports of a house fire in the 7100 block of Hemlock Street and arrived to find heavy flames coming out of the building.
Several responders tried to enter the front door to search for residents, but the porch collapsed in flames, Garcia said. Crews then entered through the back of the home, where they found a man, who was pronounced dead. Family members reported a married couple, both in their 70s, lived in the home. Investigators later confirmed the woman's death.
