Two people are dead after a reported mass shooting in Northwest, D.C. early Sunday morning, according to the Metropolitan Police Department .
During a news conference at 5 a.m., police said Third District officers responded to a reported shooting around 3 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and P Street.Officers at the scene learned that at least seven people were shot during the incident, police said. Two people died and the remaining victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
At this time, there is a lookout for a gunman who appeared to be of average build and wearing light pants and a blue shirt. Police said the suspect was last seen heading southbound on 7th Street. The mass shooting breaks an eight-day streak of no homicides in the District. The last murder reported by MPD happened on March 8.
