A “subject” is barricaded inside one of the apartments at the complex, according to a Huntsville police spokeswoman.

Two police officers and one citizen were shot Tuesday at an apartment complex in Huntsville, officials said.

The officers were responding to a call of shots fired at the complex on Governors House Drive when they were hit by gunfire, according to a police spokeswoman. A citizen was also shot. A “subject” is barricaded inside one of the apartments at the complex, according to the spokeswoman, and the incident remained ongoing as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately known. A line of police cars was stationed outside Huntsville Hospital.Huntsville police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office advised the public to avoid the area: As of 5:30 p.m., the Huntsville Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office are asking citizens to avoid the areas of Jordan Lane near Bob Wallace Ave, 9th Ave., and Governors House Drive for heavy police presence.
