The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday honoured legendary superfan Chaudhry Abdul Jalil, popularly known as Chacha Cricket, celebrating his decades-long passion and loyalty to Pakistan cricket.
His final appearance is expected during the closing ODI against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday. The PCB shared a commemorative banner featuring Chacha Cricket alongside a collage of his most memorable moments. In a social media post, the board described him as “more than a fan” and “a symbol of unwavering support for Pakistan cricket,” adding gratitude for his lifelong passion, memories, and loyalty.
Chacha Cricket is set to mark his farewell appearance during the final ODI against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday. His departure brings an end to nearly four decades of presence at home and overseas cricket fixtures, where he became a familiar figure in the stands. Born on October 8, 1949, in Sialkot, Chaudhry Abdul Jalil first gained prominence during Pakistan’s high-profile clash against India in Sharjah in 1986.
His vibrant presence in the stands quickly made him a crowd favourite, marking the beginning of his iconic journey. Dressed in his signature green shalwar kameez, white beard, and star-and-crescent cap, Chacha Cricket became instantly recognisable across stadiums worldwide. Reports suggest he left a well-paying job in the United Arab Emirates and even sold personal belongings to fund his travel so he could follow the Pakistan team globally.
