A 26-year-old man faces 16 charges in connection with a bank card scam that defrauded Burnaby seniors out of thousands of dollars last year. Police say the suspect impersonated bank employees, convincing victims their cards were compromised and requesting they hand over their cards to a “bank representative”.

Sixteen charges have been laid against a 26-year-old man in relation to an alleged bank-card scam that bilked Burnaby seniors out of thousands of dollars last year.

In each instance, police said the victims reported getting a call from someone saying they were from a bank and telling the victim their bank cards had been compromised, police said. In a third case, the suspect fled when the would-be victim told them they wanted to verify the information with their bank.
