15-year-old Ottawa boy pleads guilty to murder in botched drive-by; other shooter at large

Sahur Yare, 20, was in the backseat of a white BMW when a bullet hit her chest. The other shooter is still at large.

An hour after the shooting, the young shooter texted his girlfriend, saying something happened and he couldn’t talk about it on the phone and needed to quickly clean his clothes.

The young shooter’s identity is shielded by a routine publication ban to afford young offenders second chances with a clean public record when they turn 18. But in this case, Ottawa police, in a court-authorized move, issued a press release with the boy’s photograph and name in a Canada-wide arrest warrant.For the boy shooter, the events leading to the killing began around 11:49 a.m. when the grey Honda Civic used in the drive-by picked him up at his Vanier apartment.
