15 million viewers watched the 1st Democratic primary debate

A field of 20that forced moderator Chuck Todd to throw to a commercial break mid-question—but the two-hour event did draw a crowd, a combined 15.3 million viewers across NBC , MSNBC and Telemundo .
The ratings mean the Democratic debate outperformed ratings for debates in the 2008 and 2012 campaign cycle, but fell well shy of the first Republican primary debate of the 2016 campaign, when Donald Trump made his debut on the debate stage and 24 million viewers watched on Fox News—the most-watched primary debate in history, for either party.
