An expansion of the only emergency department on Salt Spring Island is almost complete, more than two years after construction kicked off, according to the provincial government.
The expansion will add 420-square-metres to the ER at Lady Minto Hospital, and is expected to be ready for patients this fall.
The project also adds a new ambulance bay, accessible washrooms and an expanded patient and family waiting area.“With a five-fold increase in our island’s population since the current emergency department was built, this state-of-the-art new facility is an important step forward to preserve our on-island health care,” said Dennis Miller, chair of the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation in a release Wednesday., with a budget of $12.8 million.
