Alberta Health Services has shut 11 Calgary\u002Darea facilities after an E. coli outbreak led to 12 people being admitted to hospitals.

Alberta Health Service said it declared an E. coli outbreak for those 11 locations, which are linked to 17 lab-confirmed cases.As many as 50 children sought care in hospitals, the provincial health authority said in a statement issued late Monday.

Braineer Academy, Kidz Space, Little Oak Early Education , Almond Branch School and Vik Academy in Okotoks have also been issued closure orders.“Families with children attending any of the above locations are being sent letters advising of the outbreak and are being asked to monitor for symptoms and present to an emergency department if necessary,” Alberta Health Services said in its statement.

“If children develop severe symptoms , please visit an urgent care clinic, an emergency department, or your family physician as soon as possible. It’s important that you mention your possible exposure to E. coli,” AHS said.
