An EU cycle industry NGO revises its estimate of e-bike sales from 50 million to 150 million over the next 11 years
He told the summit’s 150 B2B delegates: “We have got a smiling bike industry in Europe for the first time in a generation. Companies are making big profits [thanks to premium priced e-bikes].”
The self-described “e-bike evangelist” added: “E-bikes are leading a transformation of mobility across Europe, and they are also transforming our industry. High quality jobs with digital and electrical skills are being created on a daily basis, reinforcing cycling’s role in the green economy.” Kevin Mayne, CEO of Cycling Industries Europe, speaking at the eBike Summit at Oxford University, April 10th 2019., billed as the “voice of cycling business in Europe,” was founded last October by Accell, PON, Shimano, SRAM and Cycleurope, along with 50 other cycle-related companies.
The NGO grew out of the informal Cycling Industry Club, founded by ECF and steered by Mayne from the start. Cycling Industries Europe lobbies the European Commission to provide more infrastructure for cycling across the EU, claiming that such investment will create 225,000 jobs – the body calculates that the number of people already employed in cycle manufacturing, retail and services and cycling holiday companies totals 650,000.
