These Iron Man variants could be a way for the MCU to include a future Iron Man cameo without disrupting the legacy of Earth-616's Tony Stark.
An Iron Man return has been a controversial debate, but the hero could return to the MCU in Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars through a multiversal variant. Although Tony Stark has been referenced in the MCU plenty of times since his death in Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. has yet to reprise his role on-screen. However, the MCU’s Multiverse Saga lends itself perfectly to the revival of past characters.
Superior Iron Man wears the Endo-Sym Armor, a powerful armor made of liquid metal that Tony can control remotely. Because the armor is based on symbiote biology, the Superior Iron Man variant could even be brought into the MCU through Venom. Including a darker version of Tony, like Superior Iron Man, might be a shock at first, but it would ultimately help differentiate the variant from the MCU’s.
7 Lord Iron Another Iron Man variant from a universe of the past, Lord Iron was from the Elizabethan era. He was captured to make weapons for the Anglo-Spanish war effort and tortured by David Banner, that universe’s Hulk. Tony eventually developed the Lord Iron armor that he needed to survive, a more steampunk take on the classic Iron Man armor. Just like Earth-616’s Tony, Lord Iron went on a journey of self-improvement.
Though the MCU’s Infinity Stones were returned, Loki showed how they still very much exist in other universes. That means that the Soul Stone is out there somewhere, and Stark Odinson could still be living in Warp World. This Iron Man variant would be one of the most interesting to explore in the MCU because of how much stronger he is than Earth-616’s Tony with his Asgardian physiology, as well as the fact that he’s a mash-up of two beloved Avengers.
4 Infamous Iron Man The arrival of Victor Von Doom in the MCU has been anticipated for years, and having him introduced as the Infamous Iron Man variant would make sense in a post-Tony universe. In the comics, Victor came across Tony’s lab, where he decided he would take on the mantle of Iron Man. This decision came after the seemingly fatal blow Tony received in the Civil War II comic, and the current absence of Tony in the MCU could mean that someone is scheming to take over.
Arno’s suit is very similar in look to Tony’s classic Iron Man suit, with just the addition of shoulder pieces. It is overall more high-performing than the classic suit and doesn’t require a cybernetic link to be controlled. A multiversal variant of Arno in the MCU could be a way to indirectly carry on the Stark legacy without being a copy of Tony. Iron Man 2020 was even recruited by Kang The Conqueror in the comics, meaning a potential appearance in the Multiverse Saga would make sense.
