Science fiction films have been trying to accurately predict the future for decades. Here are a few that tried their best but did not succeed.
Some sci-fi movies have made terrifyingly accurate predictions about the future, while others have totally missed the mark. It's hard to imagine what a future we haven't inhabited yet will look like and many films from the mid-to-late 20th century predicted there would be a lot more technological advancements in the coming years than there were.
9 2012 2012 depicts an inaccurate portrayal of the year. Back in 2009, the year the film was released, there was looming doom that the world was going to end in 2012 due to predictions made in the Mayan calendar. As a result, 2012 set out to explore what the end of the world might look like, imagining cities flooding in tsunami-like storms. However, when December 21st, 2012, actually arrived, the world went on as usual, making the predictions of the film instantly outdated.
6 2001: A Space Odyssey 2001: A Space Odyssey was praised for its scientific accuracy, especially when as portrayed space as a silent place, erring away from inaccurately including loud space explosions and the like. However, that doesn't mean its predictions for the year 2001 were correct. The film came out in 1968, one year before the United States planted a flag on the moon.
